BODY & SOUL

A DISCO & SOUL FESTIVAL

Body & SOUL is teaming up with RPM Presents and Schimanski for a fabulous 21st anniversary celebration right on the NYC harbor, facing the Statue of Liberty! All ages and vibes are welcome. Arrive as early as 12 Noon and chill out, picnic, relax until we bring the volume up starting 3 PM.

Body & SOUL was founded in 1996 by John Davis and François K. as a weekly party in New York City's Club Vinyl with Joe Claussell, François K. and Danny Krivit playing together as one. Being a Sunday afternoon party (4pm to 12 am), it soon was considered as “church”, where you went to dance, sweat and lose yourself in the tribal experience. Celebrating its twenty-first anniversary in July, the party has been acknowledged as a symbol of the unifying power of dance music for its audience reaching across all cultural, racial, sexual, generational and more lines. It is a musical journey of everything from house to jazz and from rock to techno. The blend is seamless and the vibe second to none. Body & SOUL is known across the globe and frequently tours in Japan, UK, Italy, France, The Netherlands and more.

Special Live performance: Underground Resistance presents TIMELINE!

TIMELINE consists of Jon Dixon (keys/musical director), DeSean Jones (sax), Mike Banks (synth), and Mark Flash (percussion/DJ). Begun in the late 1980s by Jeff Mills and "Mad" Mike Banks, UR related the aesthetics of early Detroit Techno to the complex social, political, and economic circumstances which followed on from Reagan-era inner-city economic recession, producing uncompromising music geared toward promoting awareness and facilitating political change. In contrast to techno that preceded UR, UR tried to appeal to lower class African Americans in Detroit. UR’s songs created a sense of self-exploration, experimentation and the ability to change yourself and circumstances. TIMELINE's style is can be described as "hi tech jazz" and is more on the melodic side.
